The old Heineken brewery on the Stadhouderskade has not brewed commercially for decades, but the building still tells the story of how a small Amsterdam brewery became a global name. The self-guided route runs through the historic brewhouse, the copper kettles and the stables where the dray horses are still kept.
Along the way there are tastings, a look at the brewing process from grain to glass, and interactive rooms that are more playful than most museum displays. The visit ends with a drink in the rooftop bar.
