The museum dedicated to Amsterdam

The Amsterdam Museum is dedicated to the Dutch capital and how it became one of the most important cities in the world, interlaced with beautiful canals, home to the world famous red light district, traditional boathouses, magnificent museums, and picturesque merchant houses. How did the city become a global city and is yet so strong-minded and quaint?

The museum, located in the heart of the city centre, will take you on a journey through the city’s history and is one of the capital’s top attractions. It offers an exclusive glance at the past, present, and future of this captivating metropolis, revealing all its glamor, vices, and virtues in a fun and interactive way.

Discover Amsterdam’s DNA

This unique museum takes you all the way from the early days of the Dutch capital, how it rose to one of the world’s first superpowers to its future through a number of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Amsterdam is and was not only home to famous artists like Rembrandt or modern icons like Johan Cruijff, the cradle of the Dutch East India Company and famous for its Red Light District, the city also has a special relationship with water and entrepreneurs.

Discover the Dutch capital through a large number of masterpieces, with classic icons from the city’s collection by Lingelbach and Rembrandt sitting along side artists such as Raquel Haver, Natasja Kensmil and Brian Elstak. The interactive multimedia exhibitions are full or surprises and will give you a fascinating overview of Amsterdam’s history.

In addition, residents and enthusiasts of the city will have their say in changing exhibitions to show ‘their Amsterdam’. With familiar objects from the collection and new or less familiar works, the annex of the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel will show you that there is no single history of the city.

I liked the museum but man, there was a lot of walking. Would’ve preferred more sitting areas. Overall, it was good tho!
