Both Rembrandt and Van Gogh visited the Noorderkerk, though it was brand new when Rembrandt lived in the city and already 200 years old when Van Gogh visited. Today, the church has multiple functions, along with its original religious function it also offers cultural activities.
The main cultural activity in the Noorderkerk today, is the Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam experience. During this 40-minute show, art by both artists comes to life on the walls and rafters of the church. At the same time, the letters that Van Gogh wrote to his brother are given voice, so that you can hear for yourself how Van Gogh became inspired by Rembrandt.
Explore Amsterdam with the Hop-on Hop-off boat
