The spy capital of the world

Knowledge has always been power, which is why spies have been around as long as human civilisation itself. In ancient Egypt spies were known as “the eyes of the Pharoah”, in Persia King Cyrus referred to them as his many “eyes and ears”, and even General Sun Tzu devoted a whole chapter to spies in his famous “The Art of War”.

During the Cold War, Berlin was where East met West, no where else did the Soviet and NATO powers get into such close contact with each other. This is why Berlin is the best place to learn all about the world of spies. You can visit the German Spy Museum on the former border, the very death strip of the Berlin Wall.

Is there a spy in you?

When you visit the German Spy Museum, you won’t only learn all about the world of spies but you can also test your own spy game. From finding bugs to decrypting codes messages, writing secret messages in disappearing ink. Sending morse code messages, passing a lie detector, and cracking a safe are some of the things a spy must be able to do and you can try.

At the German Spy Museum you can even try your hand at making your way through a laser maze. You’ll have two minutes to try to make it through which ever way you can. Whether you jump, crouch or crawl, you just have to make sure that you don’t touch the laser beams.

The museum was interesting but found some parts kinda boring. It could use more live demos or something to spice it up. Also, a bit crowded. Still a decent visit though!

El museo en general está bien, pero esperábamos un poco más de interactividad. Algunos expositores estaban vacíos. Aun así, vale la pena visitarlo.

Such a fascinating museum! I learned so much about spies and their tactics. The guides were really helpful too. I especially loved the section on Cold War spies. Totally recommend it!
