Discover a Unique Museum Experience in Amsterdam

Amsterdam boasts a plethora of renowned art institutions, including illustrious names like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. However, STRAAT carves out a niche for itself, embodying both the spirit of its predecessors and a fresh, dynamic appeal. While traditional galleries have influenced the realms of fashion, design, and culture throughout history, contemporary street art and graffiti now wield that same transformative power, evolving as vital forms of expression in today’s artistic landscape.

Set within a sprawling 8000 m2 former industrial warehouse, STRAAT merges the rugged aesthetics of its surroundings with the boldness of the art it showcases. This museum embraces its raw character, deliberately foregoing comforts such as heating and even flooring uniformity, echoing the provocative nature of the artworks within. Visitors are encouraged to embrace the unconventional environment, inviting them to experience art that challenges norms and inspires dialogue.

A Hub of Creativity

The exhibits are not static; they evolve frequently, with new artworks being added to the collection on a continual basis. If your timing is right, you might even catch live art creation, as skilled artists produce fresh works on-site. Representing the vibrant international street art movement, the artists featured here share compelling narratives through their distinct backgrounds, styles, and talents, enriching the overall experience.

What makes STRAAT distinctive is that every piece displayed is tailored for this venue, mirroring the essence of street art that thrives in urban environments. The building itself contributes to the artistry, with exterior murals, including a striking multi-coloured representation of Anne Frank, that invite curiosity and reflection. Located in the historical NDSM wharf, rich in artistic heritage, the area serves as a living canvas, where every corner bursts with the colors and creativity of Amsterdam’s graffiti culture.

As visitors explore inside, the scale and impact of the artworks resonate as strongly as if they were scattered throughout the city streets. STRAAT enhances this experience by providing crucial context and insights into the artists’ intentions and techniques, offering a depth of understanding that can only be discovered within museum walls.

Plan Your Visit to STRAAT and Immerse Yourself in Street Art

Once a relatively undiscovered nook, the NDSM wharf is rapidly transforming into a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. Guided tours now proudly include this artistic hub in their itineraries, and it’s essential that you do the same when planning your Amsterdam getaway. Omg, liked the STRAAT a lot! The new graffiti is phenomenal, so much talent in one spot. I enjoyed the vibe of the old warehouse—it adds to the whole street art scene.
