Immerse yourself in the history of a modern city
With this combi ticket you can explore some of Amsterdam’s rich history. A canal cruise will take you from the Anne Frank House around the city, through its UNESCO World Heritage listed canal belt. One of the sights you can see during the cruise is the Noorderkerk, where you can see and hear how Van Gogh became inspired by Rembrandt.
Experience Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam
Van Gogh mentioned Rembrandt over 100 times in his letters to his brother Theo. He was inspired by Rembrandt’s work and his approach to creating them. Van Gogh and Rembrandt in Amsterdam portrays this inspiration in a unique way with an immersive son-et-lumière show.
The entire inside of the Noorderkerk in Amsterdam is turned into a 360° moving canvas, as the walls and the church rafters portray some of the artists’ most profound works. At the same time, Van Gogh’s own words can be heard throughout the church to tell you his story. This immersive experience is the first of its kind to be shown on such a scale inside a national monument.
An iconic Amsterdam canal cruise
When Rembrandt lived in Amsterdam, from 1631, only part of the city’s iconic canals had been created, and the Noorderkerk had only opened its doors a few years prior. 200 years later, when Van Gogh walked through the city most of the buildings that are here today had been built. Making his experience of the city much more like our own.
Your canal cruise starts near the Anne Frank House and Westerkerk, only slightly south on the Prinsengracht from the Noorderkerk. From there, the boat will take you on a 1-hour cruise through the canals, including the Keizersgracht and Herengracht. The Amsterdam canal cruise is significantly enriched by an audio guide, in 19 languages, packed with fascinating information about the city’s history.
