Discovering the Connections of Life

At ARTIS-Groote Museum, you will discover interactively how all life on earth is connected and investigate the relationship between humans, animals, plants and microbes. This Amsterdam museum therefore challenges your world view. Where do we come from? Where do we go to? And what role do we play in the bigger picture?

Take part in workshops ranging from a game to an experiment. The exhibitions, installations, artworks, films and stories in this historic national monument hold up a mirror, confront you with questions and offer new perspectives. For instance, did you know that your intestines do the same as tree roots? And that as a baby you crawled along the ground just as a crocodile moves? Maybe we have more in common than you thought! Come to ARTIS-Groote Museum and see how all life is intertwined.

Learn with your senses

The ARTIS-Groote Museum you will learn using all your senses. An interesting experience will be going through the scent tunnel, through which your sense of smell will trigger-your memories and stir your emotions. Try to keep up with the fast reflexes of a chimp in a memory-based challenge. Partake in a group activities such as playing a game or contributing to a discussion, working on an experiment in the tent, or peaceful meditation. There is always be something new and interesting to be found here!

Look at the world from a new perspective

Are you ready to have your world view challenged and changed? When the Groote Museum first opened in 1855 for members of the zoological society Natura Artis Magistra, we humans saw ourselves as being separate from the rest of the world and the inside of the museum matched this view. Today, we know humans, animals, plants and microbes are all part of the same planet, and today the newly reopened museum reflects this world view.

Get your tickets to the ARTIS-Groote Museum right now and prepare to see the world with new eyes, while walking around the oldest museum building in Amsterdam. You’ll be asking the big questions throughout your experience in the museum but once you leave, you will continue to ask ā€œWhere are we headed next?ā€.

Overall, it was okay. I expected more from the exhibits. Some parts felt kinda dull. But the idea of connecting humans and nature is cool. I would say it was just alright.
