The historic fishing villages Marken and Volendam shouldn’t be missed when visiting the Netherlands. The two places have their own traditional style. With this bike tour you can set your own pace through the municipalities of Waterland and Edam-Volendam, and make as many stops as you want!

For this tour, you get an e-bike for 6 hours. The bikes can reach a speed up to 25km/h. With the e-bike you can cycle through the countryside without breaking a sweat. We’ll provide you with routes to explore both Volendam and Marken by bike. As long as you bring the e-bike back before 5 PM and before you run out of battery, you are good to go!

Culture and natural beauty

But there is more to this tour beyond free roaming with an e-bike: in Volendam, you can head to Fotograaf Volendam to get your picture taken in traditional Volendam costume. This attire is still worn by the Volendammers on special occasions. Try if you fit the look!

In Volendam, go for a stroll on the town’s famous Dijk and if you want, grab a meal at restaurant De Lunch. When you are ready to head to Marken, you can take your e-bike aboard the Volendam Marken Express, as the crossing is included in the tour, or bike there and take the boat back at the end of the day.

When you arrive in Marken, head to the Authentic House. Here you can see how the locals lived around 1940, when the whole family slept in one room. And if you haven’t eaten yet, we recommend restaurant De Visscher. Take the e-bike to the Marken lighthouse ‘Horse of Marken’. It is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the Netherlands, and no wonder considering its beautiful and idyllic surroundings.
