The city is a peninsula

It is easy to spend two days in Helsinki and barely notice the sea, because the centre turns its back on it in places. This half-day does the opposite and follows the shoreline, which is where the city makes most sense.

The market square and the working harbour, the ferry piers, the older waterfront districts and the points where you can see how many islands there actually are. Helsinki has hundreds within its own boundaries, and the ferries that serve them are ordinary public transport rather than an attraction.

Depending on the season and your interest, the route can include a short public ferry crossing — agreed with you when you request the tour.
